Wingamm is one of the best-known motorhome manufacturers on the Old Continent. The Italian company has been in business for many years, offering modern, high-quality products that have always met the tastes of the most demanding customers. However, the time has come to cross the pond and market its products in the USA. Of course, the tastes and requirements of the American public are completely different from those of European customers, but that is not a problem. In the USA, the public prefers much larger models, which forces Wingamm to take a position among the so-called 'micro-campers', which are medium-sized motorhomes.There are advantages and disadvantages. In terms of size, there is little we can do to compete with the American 'mastodons', which in many cases resemble camper vans, if I may use the expression. On the plus side, the price is more affordable than the American models, although not as much as we are used to in Europe.Wingamm's intention is to offer a complete product range in the USA, as it does in Europe. In its 48-year history, the Italian company has never attempted the American venture, and the Oasi 540 is the first step. Other models, such as the Oasi 610 and 690, will follow by 2026. Based on a Fiat Ducato chassis cab, Wingamm adds its own body module, a fibreglass monocoque, to the bare chassis cab frame, widening and raising it to increase interior volume over a reduced wheelbase (by American standards, of course). Across the pond, the Oasi 540.1 is based on the Ram Promaster (the 'cousin' of the Fiat Ducato). It sits on the smaller 300 cm wheelbase Promaster chassis, but the Wingamm monocoque increases the overall length of the vehicle to 5.41 metres. In terms of width, the body is almost 20 cm wider than the Promaster at 224 cm and 30 cm taller than the van at 305 cm. Wingamm uses its fibreglass skills to transform a bare chassis cab into a slim and elegant motorhome. Inside, Wingamm takes advantage of the extra height to create a unique cabin. The main bed in the front, which is 198 x 135 cm and can be raised, stands out under a large skylight.
